My previous blogs have related how I have been trying to get my white XL running better and the main issue related to fuel. In playing around I felt that their was a slight exhaust leak around No. 3 cylinder exhaust valve.
So the next item on the agenda was to replace the gaskets (3) that are used with the extractors (see the attached photo).
When I went to buy the replacement gaskets, the only one available was the single piece gasket as in the photo. I would have preferred the gaskets made for the extractors but both types do the same thing, so no big deal.
The extractors came off very easily and the break in the gasket was easily seen. The other thing that I noticed was that the gaskets that I put in when I redid the engine about 18 months ago were much thinner that the replacement Pro Torque (Australian made) gaskets. The gaskets that I replaced came from England at half the price of a set in Australia but I now know why. So, I will be careful next time where I get gaskets from as cheap does not mean better!
Another little job done & the engine is running a bit quieter.
