Ford Capri - All British Day 2016

Because of other commitments, I haven't been able to attend some car shows this year but I was able to attend the All British Day. I always like this show because of the location & the cars. Even after it was postponed for a week because of the weather, there was a good turn out of cars & spectators. There are always some great British cars from Rollers to Morris Minors. The lovely light metallic green Cortina GT took one of the awards of the day. Here is just a small sample of the cars.

Ford Capri - Distributor Caps

Previous blogs I have written this year relate to the problems with my white XL running roughly at times. I spent a lot of time trying to eliminate fuel problems but lately the car has been running really badly. I have always been concerned about the side entry distributor cap that I bought with the new Accuspark distributor. The inserts in which the clips fit are very shallow & seem to me to allow some movement in the cap.
I have a number of spare caps but they suit the Bosch distributors & the Accuspark is a replacement for the Lucas brand. The photos show that the Lucas style is narrow in diameter.


The first one is the side entry that I have been using, the middle one is the new top entry & the one on the right is the Bosch style. The other photo shows the difference in how the clips attach to the cap. I originally choose the side entry as it gave better access to the distributor as the plumbing (water hoses) for the Weber carbie with the automatic choke is quite extensive.



After a lot of stuffing about, mainly due to my misreading the order of the plug wires (which I had carefully numbered!), I got the engine running again & it sounds pretty good but the proof will be in a road test. I also adjusted the carbie mixture screw to get the car running a bit leaner.
While trying to get the car running with the wrong firing order, it back fired several times through the carbie, starting a small fire. A bit of excitement for a moment!!! A very thick towel that I had handy was put over the top of the carbie & soon extinguished it, thank goodness. I have never had anything like that happen before. The foam from the air filter was burnt but that was all. I am very fortunate it was not worse.

 

Hopefully the rain will have stopped tomorrow & I will take the car for a decent test drive. 





Ford Capri - Ford Consul Capris

It is very unusual to see these come up for sale but there are two on EBay at the moment.

This the first one & is claimed to be totally original, built in 1963 & unrestored with 20,000 miles on the clock. The seller claims it to be the best Consul Capri in the world. It is listed at $50,000 with a Buy Now tag. Quite a few people watching but no one has put the money down yet.

This is the second one. This is a complete car in need of a total restoration.
There were 17 bids at the time of writing with bidding reaching $4050 with 2 days to go. Could be interesting.

Postscript - the following day, 11 August.

I now see on EBay that there is a third Consul Capri for sale ($22,500 - buy now price). There hasn't been any of these seen for ages & now three for sale at the one time!

Ford Capri - No, Damanger!!!

This has nothing to do with Capris.
A business acquaintance of a friend of mine has built this very unique vehicle especially so he can participate in charity bash/bush rallies.
The body is from a Daimler limo (I think from Hong Kong) & it has been fitted to a Range Rover chassis & mechanicals. What a machine!
It has just completed its first rally from Port Macquarie to Perth & apart from a bit of water in the distributor, it went well.

Ford Capri - Perana V8 & thank you

Firstly, I want to thank all of you who follow this blog. I have just noticed that it has reached over 10,000 hits which surprises me a little as I haven't contributed very much so far this year. I would love to know where you come from so add a comment. I do have to do some maintenance on my cars in the next month or so and I will write up everything I do.
Secondly, here is a Ford Capri Perana V8 for sale. These are very rare & this one looks pretty good so it will be interesting to see how long it stays on Ebay.

Ford Capri - RACQ Motorfest 2016

The event this year was one of the biggest ever. Maybe because it was the end of the school holidays or because the Eagle Farm markets were next door or maybe because it was just a beautiful day - the best for years. There were over 500 cars, bikes & trucks of all sorts & thousands of people turned up to see the vehicles plus all the other attractions. The racecourse has had a few improvements made since last year so the front area is quite attractive. The Capri was a bit lonely again but I parked next to a Mk 2 Zephyr so at least there were two British Fords together. As always there are many amazing vehicles on display but two which really interested me were a six wheeler Austin 7 ute/lorry and a 1915 Model T Ford camping wagon complete with extendable side sections (see the photos). It was the 100th anniversary of BMW so there was a huge display of every model bike & car. Also it is the 50th year of the Corolla so there was a big representation from the Corolla club. Very few small Fords were seen this year & the Japanese section looked down on numbers. I had plenty of people wanting to talk about the Capri or look in it or climb under it. It was a really good day.






The police car (bottom left) is the most colourful one I have ever seen.
